The lights and music of carnival rides at sundown, the scent of fried dough and the taste of fresh-squeezed lemonade… these are timeless pleasures, synonymous with summer. They’re also hallmarks of the Fayette County Fair! Our county is home to one of the largest fairs in the state, drawing more than 100,000 visitors from our region and beyond.

It’s not just runway amusements and deep-fried treats that await us at this year’s Fayette County Fair, scheduled for July 25 through August 3. Our county fair traces its history back to the 1950s, and our county’s agricultural traditions have always been at its heart. Today, farmers, crafters, ropers, pageant princesses, and even amateur vocalists have a chance to hone their talents, live their passions, and chase their dreams at the Fayette County Fair. For these folks, it’s one of the most exciting weeks of the year… and for all of us at Fayette TV, it’s one of our favorite weeks too.

As we’ve said before in this column, Fayette TV celebrates the best of Fayette County, whether that means young people who give us a reason to hope for the future, or simply neighbors coming together and enjoying the sense of community that’s so strong here. That’s why we cover the Fayette County Fair, and we couldn’t do it without the help of some individuals who also represent the best of Fayette – the members of our business community, who build our local economy and offer family-sustaining careers. Some of our local business leaders truly go above and beyond in being good citizens of our community… They choose to invest in the community by investing in community television and making our family-friendly, community-driven programming possible.

Please join me in thanking the businesses and organizations who make our Fair coverage possible: Blue Ribbon Sponsors Coordinated 360, FASTSIGNS, and the Fayette County Fair; Red Ribbon Sponsors Fayette Buy Local Network and Fayette Chamber of Commerce; Yellow Ribbon Sponsors Family Behavioral Resources and Lee’s Plumbing & Excavating Inc.; and White Ribbon Sponsors Douglas Education Center, First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Greene County, First Federal Savings Bank, Henry Clay Villa, Highlands Hospital (Dr. Gil Perez), Hudock Garages, Janney Montgomery Scott, K2 Engineering, and Uniontown Mall. Support our business partners who support community TV!

Your County Fair is underway! Be sure to stop by this week, and tune in to Fayette TV throughout the month of August– Mondays through Thursdays at 9:30 p.m., and Saturdays starting at 9 a.m. You’ll see pageants, concerts, outdoor arena events, livestock judging… programs as diverse as the Fayette County Fair itself!
